Chesterton Humberts International enters South African market

30 April 2010

The firm has appointed Andrew Smith as managing director. The appointment is in line with the company’s expansion into a number of new markets including Russia.  The operation will assume the company’s international brand, Chesterton.

Smith has over 20 years experience in the property industry and was previously owner and managing director of Cluttons SA PTY ltd which has nine branches across South Africa. He has also worked for Pam Golding and Seeff Property and Seeff Financial Services.

Robert Bartlett, Chesterton Humberts CEO, says: “South Africa remains a popular destination for wealthy and retiring second home owners, and an increase in corporate relocation activity in recent months makes this an exciting time to enter the country and strengthen our position outside of Europe, particularly when the country’s appeal will be evident to the millions watching the Football World Cup.”

“Andrew has the depth and breadth of experience in sales and marketing, management and franchising to help establish Chesterton International as a major player in the country,” adds Bartlett.
Andrew Smith comments: “Like so many other countries, the last couple of years have been difficult for the South African property market, but confidence is now returning and South African property once again represents good value for international buyers who can benefit from currency differentials.”

Andrew is married with three children and lives in Cape Town.
